Your Life Success

Your Life Success

By Mike Harland

This was an email sent to a private group we’re running, but something I think all of us should do from time to time.

For almost all of this program we have talked about goals, goal setting, and what/why those things would make you happy. Today, I’d like to challenge you a bit further. Answer this question for me:

10 years from now, what life factors will make you feel like you were successful and will allow you to be happy?

This is not a fitness related question. It is directly related to the happiness in your life 10 years from now. What will allow you to be happy with yourself and with the choices you’ve made? Here are some scenarios:

Maybe you don’t have a spouse and finding love is what will make you happiest?

Maybe you don’t have a child and starting a family is something that insanely excites you?

Maybe you’re past that point in your life and traveling the world will make you happy?

We start to realize that our life goals aren’t the same as our health and fitness goals. What we need to remember, though, is that our life goals will only happen if our health and fitness goals do.

So today I don’t want you to think short-term. Think long-term and look into your future at the things you want to be able to do 10, 20, 30, 40 years from now. Because that’s what a healthy now will allow us to accomplish.

I also want you to think about what will happen if you don’t accomplish your health and fitness goals now:

Will you find the right spouse? Will that person enjoy the same things and live a healthy lifestyle like you want, so that you can actually grow old together?

Will you be able to chase your children around the playground when you have them? What about your grandkids? Because, you do plan to be around long enough to see your grandkids grow up, right?

When you’re 50 years old and on a list of medications, under doctor supervision, possibly in and out a hospital, do you think you can travel like you want to? Not a chance. Even if you were able to go to a different country, would you be able to manage walking the streets for 8 hours?

What you do now affects what you do (or can’t do) later.

So today write out what you want your life to be like later. Then, see if your actions today will allow those tomorrows to be what you stated you want them to be. Finally, realize that you are the only one that can make those realities happen ~ good or bad.
